Top 10 OSHA Violations for 2020

For 10 Years Running, The Winner is…

OSHA has now released the Top 10 infractions for 2020 and it looks like the EOT Crane world is not on the list. Well, sort of. But Fall Protection is and how can you work on overhead cranes without being involved with Fall Protection. To top it off, this is the 10th year running for Fall Protection to be on the top of the list!

Although not specifically called out, five of the Top 10 are firmly ensconced in the overhead crane worlds. Here’s the list.

  1. Fall Protection – General Requirements (1926.501): 5,424 violations

  2. Hazard Communication (1910.1200): 3,199

  3. Respiratory Protection (1910.134): 2,649

  4. Scaffolding (1926.451): 2,538

  5. Ladders (1926.1053): 2,129

  6. Lockout/Tagout (1910.147): 2,065

  7. Powered Industrial Trucks (1910.178): 1,932

  8. Fall Protection – Training Requirements (1926.503): 1,621

  9. Personal Protective and Life Saving Equipment – Eye and Face Protection (1926.102): 1,369

  10. Machine Guarding (1910.212): 1,313

As you can see, 6 of the Top 10 are central to the Overhead Crane and Hoist world.

  1. Fall Protection, section 1926.501

  2. Scaffolding (remember, scissor lifts are categorized under scaffolding)

  3. Ladders

  4. LOTO

  5. Powered Industrial Trucks (Lift trucks)

  6. Fall Protection, section 1926.503

Since each of these six topics is central to our existence, it’s safe to say we have a target on our back and need to make sure we’re on top of each of these OSHA topics.
