Rescheduled 2020 AIST Overhead Crane Symposium
The AIST (American Institute of Steel Technology) has rescheduled its 2020 Crane Symposium. The Covid19 delayed event is now rescheduled for September 29 through October 1 at the Omni William Penn Hotel, Pittsburgh, PA., USA.
My son, Tad Dunville, and I will be speaking at the conference. Our presentation will be;
Identifying a Crane Fiasco Before It Happens
Overhead Crane projects also conform to Pareto’s 80/20 Rule. Around 80% are simple (low risk) crane projects, while 20% evolve into fiasco’s you wish you had never been part of. Tad and I have identified three factors that separate the 80 from the 20. We’ll examine how to avoid the 20%, and further, what to do if you’re already hip-deep in a 20% cluster situation.
I’m really excited about this presentation. It’s a distillation of 40 years in the crane business and provides a methodology for separating the wheat from the chaff. In other words, how to sniff out the tough projects that demand additional due dilligence by the project manager. These are not impossible projects, but they demand your “A” game as well as using “first string” suppliers. The is definately not the place for a “low bidder” mindset.
My present challenge is how to fit all this information into the speaking time slot available. Because I already know there’s no way it will fit, I will be writing a companion White Paper. Next month I will be posting a link here for both the White Paper, as well as a link to sign up for the 2020 AIST Crane Symposium.
As a quick plug for the AIST Crane Symposium, this is a group of the “best of the best” in the crane business, both speakers as well as conference attendee’s. These are all heavy duty crane people that, for the most part, do nothing but EOT cranes all day, every day. This is a conference in which the knowledge provided by the speakers might even be exceeded by the information exchanged between conference atendee’s. Hope to see you all in Pittsburgh!
